A student at Mandarin High School faces a criminal charge after surrendering a firearm to school officials Tuesday, according to Duval County Public Schools.
Tuesday was the second day of the school year, and the student self-reported to administrators and the school resource officer that he had a gun on campus, said Laureen Ricks, spokeswoman for Duval County Public Schools.
She said authorities investigated the claim, and then the student surrendered the firearm. The firearm was located inside the student’s vehicle, Ricks said.
