A Jacksonville man who bashed a 63-year-old man in the face with a chunk of asphalt after knocking on his door asking to use the bathroom was sentenced to 16 years in prison Friday as a habitual felony offender, according to the State Attorney’s Office.
Bernard Calvin Hicks, 46, was found guilty of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and attempted armed robbery, according to the State Attorney’s Office.
He forced his way inside the victim’s Post Street home in March 2014 when he answered the door and attacked him, prosecutors said.
