As the sun set on Hemming Park in downtown Jacksonville on Thursday, people representing various religious backgrounds held candles and listened to a quartet of singers perform “Let There be Peace on Earth.”
The singers were accompanied by the soft sound of a guitar, and the group of about 100 people who gathered for the event were encouraged to meet someone new before leaving the event.
“We believe by interacting with each other that leads to understanding, and hopefully that leads to respect,” said Nancy Broner, executive director of OneJax, which organized the event.
