Anyone hoping to make claims for compensation against TOTE Maritime for losses related to the sunken cargo ship El Faro will have to file their complaints by Dec. 21 after an order was approved Wednesday capping the company’s liability.
Attorneys for TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico, the registered owner of the El Faro, and TOTE Services Inc., which hired the crew, jointly filed papers Friday in federal court in Jacksonville to limit death claims to about $13.2 million, according to court records.
