The citizens of Hampton had been working to boost their city’s image after it was nearly dissolved under allegations of corruption in 2014.
But the beleaguered city received a dour reminder of its recent troubles Tuesday with the arrest of its former city clerk on a charge of organized scheme to defraud, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
FDLE agents began investigating Jane Elizabeth Hall, 59, in February 2014 after an audit by the state auditor general found 31 violations of Florida law, federal tax requirements and the city charter.
