A 54-year-old inmate who was arrested in 2015 and was facing a murder charge in Putnam County died in custody July 25 after a medical issue, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A corrections officer called paramedics after realizing Richard Glenn Gertler was having difficulty breathing that night, Capt. Joe Wells said. He said Gertler was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Wells said Gertler had previous medical issues and it appears he went into cardiac arrest, but the official cause of death has not been released.
