A somber group of about 50 people gathered at the Mayport landing site of the St. Johns River Ferry as the sun went down Saturday evening.
Many of them cried while they recited prayers and remembered the 33 crew members who went down with the El Faro cargo ship in the middle of Hurricane Joaquin on Oct. 1.
The ship made regular trips between Mayport and San Juan, Puerto Rico, and people took turns Saturday night talking about the hole the missing ship has left in the nautical community near the mouth of the river.
