Officials in Jacksonville intercepted a package last week that contained a drug commonly used in sexual assaults after someone inspecting parcels from Hong Kong noticed a strong chemical odor on Oct. 9, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The package contained a bottle filled with gamma-butyrolactone that weighed almost 3 pounds, the agency said.
The drug is a clear liquid with a high potential of overdose and addiction. It converts to gamma-hydroxybutyric acid once it is ingested and leaves victims unconscious with a loss of memory.
